What a document. One of Monk first recordings! The vinyl shows noticeable groove wear, quite a few of light scratches and some punctually deeper and audible scratches. Don't be put off by the production date. This record indeed sounds timeless - well at least not like 1983. In my opinion a fantastic Jazz album in the tradition of the Kenny Clarke & Francy Boland Big Band etc. Among the players: infamous Fritz Münzer (Second Direction) on flute and Chuck Tscheschner (King Pin Meh, Sound Factory Inc.) on bass. Of course Wolfgang Lauth is doing a great job on the vibes.... The album features some wonderful waltzes and even a short trip to brazil.

I recommend to buy every Chico Hamilton record that you can get a hold of. That dude has golden hands. This relatively late release from 1980 isn't less interesting. Why? Because of it's tenderness. A new side in Chico's oeuvre. There are so many beauties featured on the LP - not easy to pick faves for the soundclip...

Lovely copy of this Ron Carter gem from the mid seventies. He's traveling a similar route as Coltrane on "Olé" or Miles's drawing "Sketches Of Spain" when translating Spanish themes into jazz lingo. Of course the number one double bass player on the planet makes the trip worthwhile (Hubert Laws on flute blowing us into iberian air). And then Carter adds a cherry on top by gving us a bass reinterpretation of So What  - and that is a jawdropper. For those who like it funky - enjoy that side trip to Arkansas and cool down...

Nothing less than one of the holy grails in polish jazz. The thin paper cover looks great for that age.
