Rediscovered this fine record lately when "car listening" to a 15 year old cd with various tracks on it. Crazy that it still plays ; ) What's It All About has been on repeat for at least half an hour.  So nice with the sunshine... and there's more of these upright & uplifting tunes on the LP. Also an interesting band setup. Jeff Beck's drummer Richard Bailey, next to Taj Mahals Steel drum player Robert Greenwich. Van Morrison & Richard Moorcock's bass buddy Kuma Harada meets Denny Diaz from Steely Dan and the Gap Band's Glen Nighhtingale on guitars. Oisbisa's man on keys Robert Bailey also in the boat.

Mac Rebenack, the Meters and Allen Toussaint doing their thing knee deep in the Bayou. Second line beat Funk with the voodoo priest gargling over it with Southern Comfort. Check the cover art in the multi foldout and understand why the dude is called the Nite Tripper :) This is the german copy and it shows a bunch of surface scuffs. It plays with occasional background crackle as well as a bunch of soft pops and is very enjoyable. Not the collector's copy but a great tool for the DJ as Right Place Wrong Time works EVERY TIME (even on people that are not that funky) and there's a bunch of more hits for the funky folks

I have been dancing to this MASTERPIECE half of my teen age and ever since. Charles Wright took James Brown's joy of improving a step further as he was less of a maniac and a bit more relaxed. You can hear him enjoying what he does every damn second, even when he's getting mad at mom. The whole album is a blast but let me pick out That's All That Matters Baby, please. I heard it first on a trip to Hamburg when I was probably 15. We went down the stairs into the legendary soulkitchen and only minutes after entering the DJ put this on at prime time after a really stomping tune (I don't remember that one). ALL lights were dimmed to the max and everybody in the room felt the magic. Goosebumps! One day I will recreate that moment ;) You wanny try too?
